Australia New Zealand Therapeutic Products Authority
The New Zealand Government has legislation before the House that would see the implementation of a joint regulatory agency with Australia for natural products. This agency if it comes into law would be known as the Australia New Zealand Therapeutic Products Agency (ANZTPA).
If ANZTPA is instituted New Zealand companies in the natural products sector will face a completely new set of regulations before they can get their products to market. This will have a significant impact on companies in the natural products sector.
Information about the proposed ANZTPA and some of the proposed new regulations can be found at: www.anztpa.org or at www.medsafe.govt.nz
Good Manufacturing Practice
Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) is a total manufacturing and quality assurance system that sets the standards for operation of the entire company. GMP is internationally accepted for the production of quality products. Each batch of products contains the documentation requirements to provide a traceable history of the production and distribution.
Medsafe is the government body that issues the GMP certification under the New Zealand Code of Good Manufacturing Practice for Manufacture and Distribution of Therapeutic Goods.
The New Zealand Institute of Food Science and Technology has produced a book called "Food Industry Guide to Good Manufacturing Practice" and the New Zealand Food Safety Authority has produced the Good Manufacturing Practice Guideline
